Aims and Objective

The purpose of this tutorial is to provide a full-day, intensive, under-the-hood look at two real-world application integration frameworks: Digital Equipment Corporation LinkWorks and OpenText LiveLink. These frameworks enterprise enable virtually any off-the-shelf or custom application through the creation of business aware objects using framework services such as workflow, electronic filing, versioning, sharing, and security. The framework provides a consistent environment in which to deploy enterprise-wide applications, implement organizational policy and have it consistently applied, and support virtual workgroups regardless of geographic location. It will also be shown how these frameworks can be used to create extranets with partners while still controlling application access and the information created.

Intended Audience

Researchers and practitioners interested in getting their feet on the ground with two real-world application integration frameworks for building and systematically deploying group work tools throughout the enterprise. Technology and architecture intensive, but not overly technical in depth.

About the Instructor

D. Bruce McIndoe has over 18 years experience in the architecture planning, design, development and deployment of a number of large, world-wide systems. Mr. McIndoe has been working with distributed, object-based systems since 1982 and focusing on the use of application integration frameworks for building scaleable, client-server enterprise systems. As the Business Unit Leader for Enterprise Applications at Nichols Research Corporation (Nasdaq:NRES), Mr. McIndoe has been significantly involved in the integration of Internet technology and application integration frameworks to support group work throughout the enterprise. Mr. McIndoe holds an M.S. degree in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland and a B.S. degree in Physics from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
